Obituary for Christine Meeks Patterson (1929-2021)

Mrs. Christine Meeks Patterson, 92, of Davis Bend, passed away Monday morning, December 27, 2021 at her home, with her loving family by her side.  She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lucinda Bays Meeks born on February 22, 1929 in Knox County.

Christine was an aide at G.R. Hampton Elementary School for over 13 years. Every season, she grew a beautiful garden at her home. Known affectionately as “Granny” to everyone in her community, she often shared her harvest with her family and friends.  Her kitchen was the welcoming place of her home.  After preparing a large meal, she enjoyed taking a seat at the table among her children and grandchildren and listening intently to their stories.  In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping at yard sales and visiting her neighbors.

On October 3, 1944, she united in marriage with James Robert Patterson and to this union twelve children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Patterson; three beloved sons, Jerry Stephen, Charles Arthur and Daniel Paul Patterson; a cherished daughter, Bobbie Helen Cobb; grandson, Jim Mac Foley; two sisters, Jessie Cole and Edith Knuckles; four brothers, Vernon, Robert, Paul and Gene Meeks and two sons-in-law, Daniel Cobb and Floyd Marler.

Survivors include her loving children, Linda Vanover and husband, Roger, Sherry Allen and husband, Curtis, Judy Woolum and husband, Joe, Irene Marler, Betty Foley and husband, Harold, Jim Patterson and wife, Tammy, Bill Patterson and wife, Sharon, and Rev. Tom Patterson and wife, Ann; over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, December 31 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Tim Phipps officiating and a special recording from the late Rev. Andy Marsee.  She will be laid to rest in the Davis Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Kelly Teague, Hobert Teague, Wayne Teague, James Robert Cole, Ricky Knuckles and Vernon Cole.  Serving as honorary bearers will be the staff of Bluegrass Care Navigators, Sabrina Garland Marion, Tommy Mays, Sam Tuttle and Lloyd Cole.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday after 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
