Mrs. Judy Ann Messer, age 62 of Barbourville, Kentucky departed this life on Monday, November 4, 2019 in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of Mathias and Juanita (Mills) Carnes, born to them on September 3, 1957, and the wife of Edward Messer, Jr.  Judy was an employee of Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) in data entry.  She was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church, enjoyed singing and playing the piano. 

Judy was preceded in death by her parents Mathias and Juanita (Mills) Carnes, son Stevie Ray Messer, brother Eugene Carnes and sister Doris Brown.

Left behind to mourn her passing are loving husband Edward Messer, Jr., daughters Enesel Shoupe and her husband Gilbert of Barbourville, Kentucky, Juannia Smith and husband Henry of Barbourville, Kentucky, Maeda Merritt and husband Roger of Corbin, Kentucky, grandchildren Edward Corey Blankenship, Tiffany Megan Jordan, Dalton Lee Smith, Emily Brooke Smith, Ethan Wayne Shoupe, Bethany Judith Grace Shoupe, step grandchildren Justin Merritt, Colton Merritt and Dylan Merritt, step great grandchildren Emmalyn Merritt, Jaxton Merritt, Brayson Merritt, Kaydence Moore and Mattox Moore; brothers Lonnie Carnes and wife Margaret of Greenfield, Indiana, Glen Carnes of Barbourville, Kentucky, Bill Carnes and wife Meveline of Arjay, Kentucky, sisters Beatrice Leath of Artemus, Kentucky, Evelyn Mills of Barbourville, Kentucky and Betty Shelton and husband Jack of London, Kentucky.  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral services for Mrs. Judy Ann Messer will be held at the Salem Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Bobby Abner, Reverend Jerry Smith and Reverend Chester ‘Bud’ Sizemore officiating.  Pallbearers will be her nephews.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the doctors and staff of University of Kentucky Hospital and the Gill Heart & Vascular Institute 6 North.  Burial will follow at the Carnes & Messer Cemetery at Laurel Branch.  Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Salem Missionary Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
