BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – On a day when it seemed to be able to answer every challenge, No. 15 Union College was unable to respond to visiting Asbury’s (Ky.) last-second 3-pointer in an 86-84 loss on Saturday.

The defeat drops the Bulldogs 8-6 on the year, while the Eagles are now 10-4.

During the last five minutes, the lead changed hands 11 times with the lead being no more than one point except for the final bucket.

After Clarien Washington put Asbury up 83-82 with 30 seconds remaining, Dominique Lindsey gave Union an 84-83 with seven seconds left. Lindsey was fouled driving the lane, and he sank both of his free throws for the one-point, Bulldog advantage.

Union put the full-court press on, but Asbury was able to get the ball down the floor in time for a last-second shot. Trenton Thompson found Washington on the left wing as the Eagle guard drained a 3-pointer for an 86-84 lead with 1.3 seconds still on the clock.

The Bulldogs attempt a desperation 3 from three-quarters of the court, but it fell short as the Eagles escaped with the two-point win.

Lindsey paced Union with a career-high 24 points, hitting 10-of-12 from the foul line. Lance Blakely posted another double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to go with six assists. Austin Cummins hit 4-of-9 from long range in netting 19 points.

Play was tight throughout the contest with neither team holding more than a six-point lead. Union’s largest lead was five, which came in the first half as it took a 30-25 lead. However, Asbury closed out the half on a 12-2 run to take a 37-32 lead at the break.

In all, there were 17 lead changes and 12 ties.

Thompson led Asbury with a game-high 27 points as Washington followed with 14. Deion Cochran and Will Henderson followed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
