KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Brooke Hammonds continues to make history as she became the first Union College women’s basketball player to be named to the 2019-20 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball All-America First Team, the association announced Thursday.

Not only is this the Pennington Gap, Va., native’s first All-American honor, but Hammonds is also the first player in program history to make the first team. Lindsey Waters was the last Bulldog to make the NAIA All-American team, appearing on the Second Team in both the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

This is the 10th time a player received All-American honors in program history.

Hammonds led Union in scoring (17.5 points per game), rebounding (11.1 rebounds per game), assists (3.06 assists per game), steals (98), and blocks (27). She set school records for most steals in a year (98), most double-doubles in a season (22) and career (34). She is the first player in program history to amass 500 points, 300 rebounds, and 100 assists in a single season. Hammonds’ 366 total rebounds are one shy of the program record set by Waters in 2011-12.

Nationally, Hammonds ranked sixth in total steals (98), seventh in total rebounds (366), 10th in total scoring (579) and defensive rebounds per game (8), 12th in total rebounds per game (11.091), and 13th in steals per game (2.970).

Hammonds was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Player of the Year as well as the Defensive Player of the Year. She also made the All-AAC First Team and the Champions of Character Team. After winning the AAC Tournament, Hammonds added the AAC Tournament MVP to her list of awards.

This season Hammonds joined the Union College women’s basketball 1,000 point club, finishing the season with 1,203 total career points which slot her 13th on the all-time scoring list. Hammonds also reached the 800 career rebounds mark and currently sits at fourth in the all-time Union rebounders list with 859. She also dished out 112 assists this season to bring her career total to 257.

Union finished the season 26-7 overall and 20-4 in conference play. The 26 wins are a program record for the Bulldogs.
