Bonus Coverage: Harlan County residential fire claims the life of twin children; parents air-lifted to burn unit in Georgia

On April 22, 2019 at 11:18 a.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of a house fire off of Ky 522 in the Totz community of Harlan County. Trooper Joey Brigmon responded to the scene and advised Post 10 two individuals needed medical treatment.

The husband and wife were flown to Holston Valley Hospital in Tennessee for life threatening injuries and later transported to a hospital in Augusta Ga to treat severe burns.

The fire department was notified that the couple had twin three year old children that had not been accounted for when the parents were flown out.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Kentucky State Police confirmed the twin three year old children were located deceased inside of the residence. The Harlan County Coroner has pronounced both deceased and will be sending both children to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
