Mrs. Brenda Kay Hart, 68, of Barbourville, passed away Monday evening, January 19, 2026 at the Beech Tree Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 27, 1957 in Knox County, the daughter of the late James and Cleo Hinkle McVey.
Brenda was a home maker and a believer of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed reading and watching television and treasured her time with family and friends.
On September 20, 1990, she united in marriage with Jack Hart, who preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William Patterson; a daughter, Melissa Mills and brothers, Ronnie, John and David McVey.
Survivors include her children, Jeff Paterson and wife, Shawna, of Pineville, Regina King and husband, David, and Chris Patterson all of Whitley County; sisters, Geraldine Fields of Bimble, Bonnie Smith of Woollum, Judy Reynolds of Bimble, Sharlene Reef of Gray, Vickie Teague of Harlan County and Shelia Cole and husband, Lloyd, of Davis Bend; sisters-in-law, Susie McVey of Bryants Store and Cora McVey of Whitley County; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, January 22 at 2 P.M. with Rev. E. C. Fields and Rev. Roy Vaughn officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Clark Hinkle Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
