Obituary for Carrie Mae Lowe (1927-2019)

Mrs. Carrie Mae Lowe, 92, of Barbourville, passed away Monday afternoon, December 30, 2019 at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center.  She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mattie Girtman Roark born on February 16, 1927 in Bell County.

Carrie was a former K-Mart associate and a member of God’s Temple.  She enjoyed attending church and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving grandmother, Fannie Johnson; an infant son, Larry Wayne Lowe; a son, Billy James Lowe; two grandsons, Billy Jr. and Ethan; six sisters, Beulah, Juanita, Brenda, Nadine, Arlena and Donna V. and a brother, Harold Lee Roark.

Survivors include two sisters, Launa Charlton of Barbourville and Elsie King of Jonesboro, IN; a daughter, Maxine Richardson of Barbourville; several grandchildren and great grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews; former husband, Howard Powell of Bimble; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, January 8 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Jimmy Lee officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Pineville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Earl Dye, Marty Smith, Junior Longsworth, Roy Longsworth, Virgil Longsworth, James Jordan and Phillip.  Honorary bearers will be Dr. Talmadge V. Hays and Rodney Smith.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
