Mr. Daniel “Danny” Maurice Mitchell, 62, of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday morning, September 22, 2026 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was the son of the late Maurice T. and Doris Hammons Mitchell born January 7, 1964 in Knox County.
Danny was a technical engineer and technical writer at Lawrence Technical University and a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church. He was a former member of The Gideons International and former Sunday school teacher. Danny enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including collecting Star Wars memorabilia, Marvel Comics and LEGO sets.
Above all, Danny treasured his role as a father. His daughter, Amanda, was the light of his world and brought him immeasurable joy. The time he shared with her was among his most cherished moments, and the love he had for her was an enduring part of his life.
On April 21, 2000, he united in marriage with Billie Hudson.
Survivors include his loving wife, Billie Mitchell of Barbourville; cherished daughter, Amanda Mitchell of Barbourville; sisters-in-law, Anita Hudson and Teresa Lynn Hudson both of Barbourville; special cousin who was like a brother, Gary Hubbs and wife, Amy, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; very special friends, Freda, Darryl and Nick Smith; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, September 29 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Gary King and Rev. Brian Davidson officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mitchell Family Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be members of the Bethesda Baptist Church.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
The family respectfully asks that no flowers be sent and donations may be made to the Knox-Whitley Humane Association, the Knox County Cancer Patient Fund or Georgia Hair Solutions and Salon in Jackson, GA, where donations are received to create wigs for cancer patients at no cost.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Bluegrass Care Navigators, Dr. Richard Carter and the staff of Access Health, Knox County EMS and fire department.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
