Obituary for Dorothy Case (1948-2026)

Mrs. Dorothy Case, age 77, of Barbourville, Kentucky, departed this life on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin. She was born on November 1, 1948, the daughter of Richard John Roach and Ethel Laura (Shelton) Roach.

Mrs. Dorothy Case was born November 1, 1948, to Richard John Roach and Ethel Laura Roach. Mrs. Dorothy enjoyed her church family, and she took great pride in serving as a caretaker.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ethel Laura Roach; father, Richard Roach; daughter, Laura Smith; brothers, Richard Roach, Johnny Hamilton, David Hamilton, and Jim Hamilton; sisters, Ruth Sams and Geneva Goins; grandson, Christopher William Smith; and many other dear relatives.

She is survived by her loving son, Steven Lee Smith, and his family; her loving daughter, Angela Smith, and Rick Gregory of London, KY; her loving daughter, Jennifer Maria Smith of Barbourville, KY; Brian Dale Case of Bloomfield, KY; her precious best friend and sister, Sue Burkhead, and Terry Burkhead of Willisburg, KY; her precious brothers and their wives, Sam and Linda Roach of Versailles, KY, Randall and Loretta Roach of Barbourville, KY, and William and Rhonda Roach of Barbourville, KY; and one special brother-in-law, Bill Goins.

Grandchildren include Anna Smith; William Lee Smith, John Boy Smith, and Kay; Laura Smith and Darrell; Kayla and Chris Jelenc; Cheyenne and Derrick Gray; Kelsea Valentine; and Sully Case.

Great-grandchildren include Elizabeth Johnson, Bella Johnson, Kylie Rae Johnson, Parker Ray Smith, Zeppelin Smith, Christopher Smith, Jordan Smith, Elijah Smith, Tony Smith, Sammy Smith, Presley Smith, Evalynn Vaughn, Dawson Vaughn, Kaci Jelenc, Ella Jelenc, Camden Jelenc, Collins Jelenc, Kinzlie Ledford, Kash Gray, and Kade Gray.

She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and a special, beloved nephew, Gerald Dale Burkhead.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Case will be conducted in the Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Jackson-Turner Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
