Obituary for Everett Dean Cottongim, 91

Barbourville, Ky. – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Everett Dean Cottongim of Lily, Kentucky, on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at the age of 91. Dean passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Oak Park, MI, surrounded by his wife and family. 

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sudie Cottongim; daughters, Carol Cottongim (Bill) Ritter, Sherry (Larry) Bullock, Kim (Mark) Gildersleeve, Jan (Dave) Bradley, Anita (Rob) Stol; grandchildren, Carla George, Andrea (Will) Nagy, Chad (Lindsay) Bullock, Tina (Brian) Bassett, Robby Stop, Jackson Bradley, Peyton Stol, Savannah Bradley; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Lexy, Hunter, Alex, Sydney, Sawyer and Harper. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ortie Cottongim (Moore), and his siblings Roy (Denver) Cottongim, Annis Mae Bowlin, and James (Norman) Cottongim. 

Loved by everyone who knew him. Dean was known for his kindness, gentleness and generosity. Although he will be deeply missed, we will all hold a special place in our hearts for this beautiful man.

The Cottongim family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour of 1:00 PM.  Pastor Dennis Chesnut will officiate. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Barbourville Cemetery. Casket Bearers are Bill Ritter, Larry Bullock, Chad Bullock, Mark Gildersleeve, Jackson Bradley, and Robby Stol.  Honorary Casket Bearers are Valerie House and Jim Bowline.
