Gatha Ann Lawson, age 88, of Corbin, Ky passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in Corbin, Ky.
She was born May 25, 1937 in Gatliff, Ky to the late Marshall Lambdin and Ida Wilson Lambdin. She was a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church and Corinth Ladies Missionary Group in Corbin and also honored by being the Kentucky Volunteer of the year at the Heritage Nursing Home in Corbin, Ky. Gatha Ann had many jobs but the most important and enjoyable job was raising her family.
Gatha’s love ran deep and if she loved you, you knew it. First and foremost she loved her family and was devoted to always putting them first. She loved her faithful and loyal dog Bubbles, and that love was returned where one was that’s where you would find the other.
She loved UK basketball. Every year she would get to know ever player which sometimes wasn’t a good thing because she didn’t care to let them know when the game wasn’t going good.
She loved her flowers and gardening; she also spent many hours watching her fish swim around in the tank beside her recliner even naming them special names.
She had a standing Friday night wrestling party with her grandchildren and friends which she looked forward to all week.
Gatha was preceded in death by husband; Leander Lawson and daughter; Jana Lee Lawson, three brothers; Gerald Lambdin, Ellis Damon Lambdin, and Curtis Teddy Lambdin.
She is survived by, two children; Jerry Lawson (Ronnie Philpot), daughter; Sherry Johns and husband Chuck all of Corbin, Ky, one sister; Marcella Smith of Corbin, Ky, three grandchildren; Jeremy Lawson and wife Angie, Courtney Leighann Elson and Zack Johns, four great-grandchildren; Spencer Lawson, Ellie Ann Ball, Hagen Ball, Adelyn Johns, and a host of family and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. November 26, 2025 at O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerome Cox officiating with burial following in Peace Cemetery the Lawson edition in Siler, Ky.
Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home.
