Barbourville, Ky. – Geraldine Logan Brooks, age 90, of Bryants Store, Kentucky, passed away at her home, Thursday, July 31, 2025, surrounded by loving family. Born in Knox County, Kentucky, on March 25, 1935, Geraldine was the daughter of Mary Ellen Mays Logan and Frank Dooley Logan.
On September 26, 1955, Geraldine united in marriage to William Stevie Brooks, who was a member of the United States Air Force. For the next 20 years Geraldine moved several times and traveled the world with Stevie while he served in the Korean War. Geraldine and Stevie had two children together, Roger and Sandra, whom they lovingly raised. In 1973, after Stevie’s retirement from service, the family settled in Knox County, Kentucky.
Geraldine was a homemaker, dedicating her time and talents to creating a warm and inviting home for her family and friends, and a deeply spiritual person of the Baptist faith. Geraldine was a dedicated member of Locust Grove Baptist Church for decades. Later in her life, she regularly attended East Barbourville Baptist Church with her family. Geraldine enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing with her husband, and cooking – her dumplings and peanut butter fudge were sought-after. She was happiest when spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren whom she rightfully spoiled. Geraldine will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Geraldine is survived by her son Roger Brooks, and his wife Renee; her daughter Sandra Gregory; and her sisters Irene Runion and Carolyn Lake, and her husband Wilburn Lake. Seven grandchildren: Randy Payne, Stephanie Youngs (Andy), Daniel Payne (Angel), Isaac Brooks (Madelynne), Emily Brooks (fiancé Billy Chamberlin), Aaron Gregory (Jennifer), and Shannon Gregory (Sarah); and six great grandchildren: Audrey Payne, Karsyn Payne, Ayden Bargo, Kaylee Gregory, Ella Gregory, and Paige Gregory also survive Geraldine and will miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen Mays Logan and Frank Dooley Logan, Geraldine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years William Stevie Brooks; son-in-law Edward Gregory; sisters Verla Logan, Edith Burnett, and husband Dave, Jean Davis, and husband HC Davis, Pauline Lawson, and husband LD Lawson; and brother-in-law Arvle Runion; brothers Ed Logan, and his wife Alene, Kay Logan, Kyle Logan, and his wife Ruth, Jimmy Logan, and his wife Virgie, and Johnny Logan.
The Brooks family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home, Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM. Reverend Josh Smith will officiate, assisted by Reverend Keith Bays. Honorary officiants, beloved by Geraldine, are Brother James Vandy and Brother Bill Gray. A musical tribute will be performed by Isaac Brooks. The family has chosen as Casket Bearers: Ayden Bargo, Isaac Brooks, Billy Chamberlain, Aaron Gregory, Shannon Gregory, Daniel Payne, Randy Payne, and Andy Youngs. Interment will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery, Barbourville, Kentucky.
