Mr. James Smith, 69, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday morning, May 22, 2025 at his home. He was born December 14, 1955 at Flat Lick, the son of the late Lester and Ethel Broughton Smith.
James was a former employee of Dorsey Paving in Indianapolis, IN and believed in the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed working on cars and cutting grass. He most enjoyed time spent with his family.
On September 5, 1980, he united in marriage with Kathy Brock at Hulen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Corrine Smith, Flora Wright, Pauline Gray, Geraldine Tinsley and Josephine Smith.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kathy Smith of Barbourville; children, James A. Smith and wife, Carol, of Saint George, SC, Scott Brock and wife, Tonia, of Hillsboro, OH and Angela Perkins and husband, Thomas, of Barbourville; sisters, Ivalene Epperson of Salt Gum and Wilma Fuson of Barbourville; brothers, J. W. Smith of Bimble and Kenneth Smith of Heidrick; cherished grandchildren, Dakota Smith, Cheyenne Smith, Angelene North, Josie Rylander, Tyler Rylander, Nicholas Perkins, Cordell Perkins, Cynthia Young and Katie Reid; great grandchildren, Aiden and Addison Smith, Elijah, Alec, Sadie and Emberlynn Stacy, Kinsley, Blake and Laklin McNevin and Mason and Landon Gambrel; a host of nieces and nephews that he loved very much; a special sister-in-law, Becky Mason and brother-in-law, Chris Fugate, that he loved as his own; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, May 26 at 2 P.M. He will be laid to rest in the Smith Family Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Monday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
