Barbourville, Ky. – Jeanetta Cottongim, 90, of Woollum, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026. Jeanetta was born on December 13, 1935, to the late James Cobb and Edna Davidson Cobb.
Jeanetta united in marriage to Andrew Cottongim on May 12, 1956, and to this union, four children were born. In 1960, Jeanetta and Andrew moved to Lexington and lived on a horse farm where they raised their children and created a beautiful life. They later relocated back to Woollum in 1975.
Jeanetta was a devoted Christian woman and a faithful prayer warrior whose life reflected her deep and abiding faith. She was a founding member of her church and generously gave land to help establish it, leaving a lasting legacy within her community.
Andrew Cottongim, Jeanetta’s loving husband, preceded her in death in 1988. With the loss of her husband, Jeanetta became a strong and loving presence in her role as family matriarch. Jeanetta was a successful entrepreneur. She owned and operated several businesses throughout her life, the last being Sun Center Tanning Salon in Barbourville. Jeanetta was known for her good sense of humor and her love of traveling, often taking trips with her children and grandchildren. She especially cherished time spent with her grandbabies. She also had a special talent for quilting and crafts and was honored with a first-place award for one of her quilts at the Daniel Boone Festival. Jeanetta was also awarded the honor of being named a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Jeanetta was preceded in death by her son, James Keith Cottongim; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Ellis Cobb and wife Mary Lou, and James Andrew Cobb and wife Sandra; and by two brothers-in-law: F.G. Wagers, Vernon Wagers, and Larry Lawrence.
Jeanetta is survived by her son, Dannie Andrew Cottongim and wife Charlotte Lee; her daughters: Phyllis Ann Bidarian and husband Mohammad, and Pamela Lynn Crawford and husband David; her sisters: Beatrice Wagers, Loretta Wagers, and Martha Sue Lawrence; her grandchildren: Aaron Bidarian and wife Meghann, Cameron David Bidarian and wife Casey, Phillip Andrew Cottongim and wife Jill, Zachary Blake Cottongim and fiancé Kelsey, Bridgette Walker and husband Ronnie, and Brian Crawford and wife Donielle; and seven great-grandchildren.
The Cottongim family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour of 1:00 PM. Reverend Jeremy Abner, Reverend Mann Cobb, Reverend Darrell Bargo, along with honorary officiant Owen Smith, will conduct the funeral service. Musical tributes will be performed by Marsha Barrett, Mossie Schell, and Bonnie Miller.
Interment will follow in the Cottongim Cemetery in Manchester, Kentucky.
Serving as casket bearers will be Aaron Bidarian, Cameron Bidarian, Phillip Cottongim, Zachary Cottongim, Brian Crawford, Ronnie Walker, Tim Gibbs, and Scott Lawrence. The Cottongim Family would like to recognize and thank the staff at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and devotion that they provided to Jeanetta in her last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 232 Little Bull Creek Road, Woollum, Kentucky 40906.
