Barbourville, Ky. – John W. Crawford, 81, passed away August 27, 2025. John was the son of Alfred Crawford and Elsie Baker Crawford born to them on April 23, 1944, in Jarvis, Knox County, Kentucky.
John was a kind man dedicated to his family, faith, and country. John attended Knox Central High School, before deciding to enlist in the United States Army. While serving in the Army, he was deployed to South Korea during the Vietnam War. After his service ended John moved to Hamilton, Ohio where he lived and worked for many years before returning home to his Kentucky roots. Upon his return to Barbourville, John worked at Tremco as a machine operator until his retirement. He confessed Jesus as his Savior at Locust Grove Baptist Church. In his spare time, John enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.
Left behind to mourn John’s passing are his sisters Carol Crawford and Betty Crawford Shields (Joe). John was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Elsie Crawford; his daughter Cindy Crawford Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy Crawford (Ginny), Lonnie Crawford (Gwen), Windell Crawford (Rachey), and Hewey Crawford; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Crawford Mills (Estil), and Ruby Crawford Trosper (Jim).
The Crawford family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM. Brother James McDonald will officiate. Musical tributes to be performed by Kim Smith and Amy Shields. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Gilbert Cemetery at Girdler, Kentucky. Casket Bearers will be cherished family and friends. Honorary Casket Bearers are caring staff members at Adams Unit Eastern Kentucky Veterans Unit.
