Mrs. Karen “Kopie” Doolin, 69, of Girdler, passed away Wednesday morning, November 26, 2025 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Ruth Hammons Buchanan born on June 17, 1956 in Pineville.
Kopie was a retired Bell County Commonwealth’s Attorney Detective, Victim’s Advocate and a member of the Green Road Baptist Church. In her spare time, she found joy in tending to flowers, relaxing by the pool, cooking meals made with love for her family and going camping. She was an avid UK basketball fan. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
On September 27, 2002, she united in marriage with Mike Doolin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lola B. and John A. Hammons, cherished granddaughter, Presley James Doolin, parents-in-law, Sterling and Mary Doolin, brothers-in-law, Frankie Doolin, Kevin Doolin and Frankie Root and a sister-in-law, Bobbie Doolin.
Survivors include her loving husband, Mike Doolin of Girdler; daughters, Melanie Jackson and husband, Todd, of Barbourville and Amber Parrott and husband, Coty, of Barbourville; sons, Michael Doolin and wife, Kendra, of Heidrick and Dakota Doolin and wife, Lindsay, of Heidrick; cherished grandchildren, Abby and Greyson Jackson, Samuel, Shepherd and Silas Doolin and Sterling Doolin; sisters-in-law, Jackie Root of Green Road and Kathy Doolin of Heidrick; special family and friends, Pat Phipps, Debbie Gray, Jackie Bargo, Linda Johnson, Jeff and Joella Black, Debbie and David Grubb, Beth Callihan, Bailey Slusher, Karen Greene Blondell and Lowell Lundy; among other loved ones and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, December 3 at 12 Noon with Rev. Mickie Smith and Rev. Todd Jackson officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Doolin Family Cemetery at Girdler.
Serving as casket bearers will be Michael Doolin, Dakota Doolin, Greyson Jackson, Samuel Doolin, Shepherd Doolin, Silas Doolin, Sterling Doolin, Todd Jackson, Coty Parrott, Jeff Black and David Grubb.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the Barbourville ARH Hospital staff, Knox County Ambulance Service, Richland Fire Department and Barbourville Police Department.
