Ms. Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Smith, 75, of Barbourville, passed away Monday morning, November 17, 2025 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was born February 13, 1950 in Gatlinburg, TN, the daughter of the late Amos Moody and Murrell Reagan Fox.
Libby was a former beautician, held various positions in the hotel industry and was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. In her free time, Libby enjoyed watching Blue Bloods, Days of Our Lives and The Voice. She also enjoyed listening to the Beatles, Blake Shelton and Dolly Parton. On many occasions, she could be found playing an intense, competitive game of Rook with her grandchildren and other members of her family. She especially loved spending time with her dog, Peanut. Libby delighted in cooking for her family and traveling to Gatlinburg, where she would visit with her best friend, Loretta, as well as her sisters, Kathy and Frances. She had a special love for the mountains and nature in the places she lived.
On November 28, 1969, she united in marriage with Gary Smith and to this union two sons were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Fox.
Survivors include her dearly loved sons, Scott Smith and wife, Kim, and Rodney Smith and wife, Melinda, all of Barbourville; sisters, Frances Shambaugh and Kathy Daniels and husband, Carl, of Gatlinburg, TN; four cherished grandchildren, Drew Smith and wife, Melanie, Jerod Smith and fiancé, Haleigh, Paige Smith and Carly Smith; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the White Oak Flats Cemetery in Gatlinburg.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Sunday between 2 and 4 P.M.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may go to the Springfield Baptist Church in her memory.
