Barbourville, Ky. – Sharon Lynn Helton, age 64, passed away June 14, 2025. Sharon was the daughter of Jimmy Mays and Betty Mills Mays, born on September 27, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan.
Sharon was a graduate of Knox Central High School and a Christian of the Baptist faith. Sharon worked many years as a teacher’s aide at Boone Elementary School and Barbourville City Schools. She loved her family immensely. Sharon was a natural caregiver and spent many years as a homemaker, watching over her children, nieces, including Madison Mays, Morgan Mays, and Taylor Mays, nephews, and cherished grandchildren.
Sharon leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years, George Alan Helton, daughter Misty Ross and husband Robert and their sons Gabe and Vance Ross, and son Michael Helton and wife Stephanie along with their children Camden and Blakelyn Helton. Sharon’s siblings, Jimmy Mays Jr. and wife Madeline, Sandy Nolan and husband Earl, Charlotte Bingham and late husband Bobby, Randy Mays, Gary Mays and wife Beulah, Tammy Peters, and husband Stewart along with daughter Ashley Lynn Hearld, and Terry Mays and wife Mendy are also left behind to mourn her passing. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Jimmy and Betty Mays.
The Helton family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Pastor Shane Bingham will officiate the funeral beginning at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Barbourville Cemetery. Pallbearers are Shane Bingham, Micah Bingham, Clint Mays, Ryan Mays, Jimmy Mays Jr., and Terry Mays. Honorary Pallbearers are Kevin Mays, Gary Mays, and Randy Mays.
