Obituary for Shelby Jean Richmond Miller (1957-2025)

Shelby Jean Richmond Miller, formerly of Gray, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 in Sullivan, IN.  She was born January 14, 1957 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late William Riley Richmond and Christine Mills Richmond.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother; her sister and best friend, Gaila Richmond Foley; grandparents, Nancy “Belle” Mills Engle, Dr. George M. Richmond, Sr. and Martha Pauley Richmond; aunts, Cecil Mae Mabe and Wilma Richmond; uncle, George M. Richmond Jr. and a beloved great-niece, Makenzie Gail Foley.

Shelby was a 1975 graduate of Lynn Camp High School, where she was elected Senior Officer, Most Polite, and Fall Festival Queen. Many of her LC classmates became life-long friends. She was known for her green thumb and could bring any plant or flower back to life. She was very intelligent, especially in mathematics and accounting. She loved to watch Lifetime movies, play backgammon, and listen to music. Shelby loved to dance and was affectionately known to some as “Shelby Jean the Dancing Queen.” In her younger years, she could often be found dancing around her living room with her granddaughter, Jayden and great-nieces, Taylor and Makenzie while blasting the tunes of Sheryl Crowe, The Eagles, or Lynyrd Skynyrd at full volume. Her favorite pastime was drinking coffee while spending time with her sisters, Gaila and Billie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother; her sister and best friend, Gaila Richmond Foley; grandparents, Nancy “Belle” Mills Engle, Dr. George M. Richmond, Sr. and Martha Pauley Richmond; aunts, Cecil Mae Mabe and Wilma Richmond; uncle, George M. Richmond Jr. and a beloved great-niece, Makenzie Gail Foley.

She is survived by her son, Jason Edward Jones; granddaughter, Jayden Jones Willis and husband, Dakota; great grandson, Tye Clayton Willis; a Sister, Billie Rose and husband, Ronnie; aunts, Francena Mabe, Joyce Lowe, Janice Gunter and Patricia Carter; nieces and nephews, Tasha Foley and Greg, Keith Foley, Ben Rose, Cherry Rose-Shepherd and Brian, and Lee Rose and Echo; great nieces and nephews, Taylor Foley, Kiley Grace Foley, Ethan Simmons, Emma Simmons, Amelia Rose Hamblin, Emory Jean Rose, Lilee Rose and Stevie Rose; among other loved ones and dear friends.

No services are planned at this time.

Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, Indiana was in charge.
