Mrs. Shirley Ann Gray, 78, of Moores Creek, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 2, 2025 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Susie Lawson Roark born November 20, 1946 at Crockett.
Shirley was a devoted homemaker and caregiver throughout her life. She was a faithful member of The Church of God of Prophecy, where she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her church family. Shirley found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. In earlier years, she delighted in cooking large meals and inviting her family over to share dinner together. Two of the family favorites were her chicken and dumplings and cat head biscuits.
On July 22, 1962, Shirley united in marriage with Doyle Gray.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lizzie Mae Lawson and brother-in-law, George, Ella Hoskins and brother-in-law, Ben, and Virgie Honeycutt Lefevers; brothers, Paul Hubert Roark and his wife, Jerri, Wesley “Buddy” Roark and Paul Garfield Roark; sisters-in-law, Ernestine Barker, Lorene Proffitt and Pauline Byers; brother-in-law, Joey Sanders and son-in-law, Douglas Lundy.
Survivors include her loving children, Gary Gray and wife, Diann, of Barbourville, Larry Gray and wife, Trish of Moores Creek, Susan Lundy of London, Doyle Gray Jr. and wife, Sandie, of Road Fork and Rebecca Scalf and husband, Tommy, of Davis Bend; sister, Barbara Sanders; cherished grandchildren, Samuel Gray, Shane Gray and wife, Amy, Sarah Fugate and husband, Wes, Jacob Scalf, Katie Lundy, Amanda Broughton and husband, Kevin, Rachel Reed and husband, Dustin, Travis Lundy and wife, Morgan, Jared Lundy, Josh Gray and wife, Winter and Nick Gray; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rice, Mackenzie Gray, Matilda, Josie and Isabelle Gray, Riley, Carter and Amelia Broughton, Elise and Vincent Fugate, Liam Lundy, Caden and Lainey Lundy, Madalyn Scalf, Ellie, Emma and Polly Reed and Jayden Gray; sisters-in-law, Hannah Roark and Helen Roark; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, September 9 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Allen Lord and Rev. Dustin Reed officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Gray Family Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
