Obituary for Viola J. Lundy (1939-2025)

Mrs. Viola J. Lundy, 86, of Heidrick, the widow of David Lundy, passed away Sunday evening, September 28, 2025 at the Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly in London.  She was born March 21, 1939 in Knox County, the daughter of the late Frank and Alice Lickliter Johnson.

Viola was the manager of the former Lundy Recording Studio and a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church.  She had many titles and names during her life.  David called her “Bus Driver”, “Kindergarten/Nursery Keeper” and his “Precious Wife”, who later in life dressed him and made sure his wild hair was combed and tamed.  She served, cooked, canned, nursed, gardened, crocheted and used a weed eater.  In all the things she did, her children knew her as “Mommy”, “Mom” and “Yes, Ma’am”.  For all the things she did in her life, the one thing she did best was how she loved her family.

You gave us life a season ago

For this Mom, we love you so.

You gave us smiles, hugs and love

For you Mom, we thank Heaven above.

You gave us time, laughs and tenderness

By you Mom, we are impressed.

You gave us light that others see

Like you Mom, we long to be.

Not just on a special day

We love you Mom now, forever and always.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Duran Lundy; sisters, Stacie Glover, Mildred Meeks and Lois Mendoza; brothers, Bill, Andrew, James “Chig”, Frank, Herbert, Sawyer, Edward and Lester Johnson.

Survivors include her loving children, David Duane Lundy and wife, LaDonna, and Deidra Lundy West and husband, John, all of Barbourville and Durenda Lundy Lawson and husband, Tim, of Corbin; a daughter-in-law, Christina Lundy of Himyar; grandchildren, Megan Wilson Nelson and husband, Tim, Jonathan West and wife, Claire, Jonah West and wife, Makinley, Nathan Lundy and wife, Elisabeth, Chloe Lundy Hacker and husband, Matthew, and Madeline Lawson; a great grandson, Walt Raymond West; among other loved ones and dear friends.
