Obituary for Virgie Mae Mills (1937-2026)

Mrs. Virgie Mae Mills, age 88 of Flat Lick, Kentucky, departed this life on Sunday, January 18, 2026 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington with her family by her side. She was the widow of Harrison Mills, Jr. and the daughter of George Mattison “Red Matt” Mills and Sudie (Warren) Mills, born to them on May 10, 1937.

Virgie was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She loved welcoming her friends and family into her home for a homemade meal and good conversation. One of her quotes would be, “come on in and stay a while”. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping and relaxing with some T.V. Her favorite shows were; The Hour of Grace, presenting son-in-law- Donnie, daughter Linda and friend, Gerald Baker. She enjoyed their music as well as Rev. Donnie’s message. She enjoyed The Hour of Harvest, featuring Margaret Drake. Finally, we must include her westerns and a few other favorites. She will definitely be remembered for the best homemaker chocolate pie EVER. She had many dishes that will never be forgotten. 

Virgie is preceded in death by her husband Harrison Mills, Jr., her parents, George Mattison and Sudie (Warren) Mills Smith, one son Larry Mills, her siblings, Martha Centers, Rosa Sizemore, Axie Castle, Sally Jackson, Claude Mills, A.Y. Mills, her half siblings, Charity, Canie, Beckham, Effie, Henry, Cordie and Louisa, her step-father, Albert Smith and several other step siblings.

Left behind to mourn her passing, her five children, Linda Sue Mills and Rev. Donnie Mills of Flat Lick, Charlene Rice and husband Gary of Rockholds, Geraldine “Gerri” Roach and husband Robert of Erlanger, Markel Lee Mills and Shawn Dwayne Mills both of Flat Lick, a daughter-in-law, Ella Mae Mills of Flat Lick, sixteen grandchildren, Jason Mills, Rev. Derrick Mills, Sarah Christopher, Rhonda Garrison, Randy Keith Gray, Amy Abner, Lauren Abner, Natasha Mills, Steven Mills, Tyler Roach, Ryan Roach, Jayce Gilbert Burnette, Ashley Mills, Tabitha Merritt, Amber Rice and Londa Napier, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, Emily Grace, Josie, Maddox, Lily, Braydon, Abby, Carter, Hunter, Braelynn Jae, Titus, Gunner, Gatlin, Corey, Kaitlyn, Randy Paul, Alan, Dalton, Emily, Brandon, Jason, Hayzlee, Jacob, Madison, Josh, Nick, Matt and Jasper Jonathan, twelve great-great grandchildren, Ariah Raevynn, Kylan lee, Colson, Mekinly, Caleb, Olivia, Aubrey, Braelyn, Everleigh, Brianna, Laurel and Caroline. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, two very special sisters-in-law, Eseline and Helen and many and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff in ICU at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. They would also like to thank extended family and friends for their assistance in time of need and especially during her sickness. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Virgie Mae Mills will be conducted in the Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Mills, Rev. Bud Sizemore, Rev. Derrick Mills officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Harrison Mills Cemetery in Buckeye beside her husband. Pallbearers will be, Braydon Mills, Tyler Roach, Ryan Roach, Jacob Mills, Randy Patterson, Jason Mills, Ethan Patterson and Steven Mills. Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday until the hour of service at 1:00.
