Obituary for Wilma Buchanan Goins (1924-2020)

Mrs. Wilma Buchanan Goins96, of Barbourville, passed away Saturday morning, October 24, 2020 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late William H. and Carrie Jackson Buchanan born on January 27, 1924 in Knox County.

On January 4, 1944, she united in marriage with William Norman Goins and to this union two children were born.

Always together, it was no surprise when Wilma and her sister, Dorcas, married brothers, Norman and Eli Goins Jr.  On February 11, 1959, the four of them established the D & W (Dorcas and Wilma) Cafeteria.  Many memories were created during Sunday dinners, hosting proms and even entertaining Kentucky Governors.  Throughout the years, as the restaurant thrived, the sisters and their husbands continued to be inseparable sharing work and even a bank account.  In 1970, due to health reasons, the D & W cafeteria was sold to new owners, the Gibsons.  Wilma was also a member of the Apple Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; two sisters, Dorcas Goins and Jean Mills and seven brothers, Clarence K., General O., Lowell, Randall, Lloyd, Herbert and William “Bill” Buchanan.

Survivors include her beloved children, William “Bill” Norman Goins Jr. and wife, Viann, of Ft. Thomas and Brenda Sue “Susie” Goins of Barbourville; four grandchildren, Rebecca Goins McLean and husband, Ian, John Wiley Brown, Susan Brown Brewer and husband, Chris, and Michael Dwayne Brown; seven great grandchildren, Andrew McLean, Caleb McLean, Jared Brewer, Kamryn Chrisco, Quinlyn Chrisco, Reagan Brewer and Reid Brewer; sisters-in-law, Joyce Buchanan, Florene Buchanan and Ruth Warfield; former son-in-law, Wiley Brown; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, October 27 at 2 P.M. with Bro. J. Lester Horst officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Goins Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Randy Buchanan, Michael Mills, Michael Brown, John Wiley Brown, Reid Brewer and Bryce Imel.  Honorary bearers will be Leroy Warfield, Dr. James West, Dr. Paul Pedersen, James Robinson, her caregivers, Pam Bargo, Geneva Smith, Serena Smith and Laura Bright and the nursing staff at the Barbourville ARH Hospital.
