Mrs. Wilma Jean Gray, 92, of Dewitt, passed away Friday afternoon, July 17, 2026 at Baptist Health Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Clark Mills Sr. and Mae Hammons Mills Grunett born September 12, 1933, at Road Fork.
Wilma dedicated many years as a seamstress with Warners. She was a faithful member of Dewitt Baptist Church and was actively involved in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), serving the Lord and her church with a willing heart.
She enjoyed playing games, working puzzles, and cheering on her beloved Kentucky Wildcats men’s and women’s basketball teams. Wilma found joy in life’s simple blessings.
More than any accomplishment or pastime, Wilma’s greatest legacy was the Christ-centered life she built within her home. She exemplified the virtues described in Proverbs 31, living with quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a servant’s heart. Truly, “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies” (Proverbs 31:10). She devoted herself to loving and encouraging her family, finding her greatest joy in seeing them grow and thrive. It is fitting, then, that the words of Proverbs 31:28 speak so beautifully of her life: “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
On October 15, 1948, she united in marriage with Lee Roy Gray, and together they built a home founded on faith, love, and devotion to family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lee Roy, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Gray; half-sister, Audrey Messer; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Homer Broughton; brothers, Lloyd and B.P. Mills; great-great granddaughter, Caroline Mills and mother and father-in-law, James and Pearlie Gray.
Those who rise to honor her memory and give thanks for her enduring love are her children, Jerry Gray and wife, Betty, of Dewitt; Donald R. Gray and wife, Helen, of Barbourville; Judy Gray Bingham and husband, Dean, of Dewitt; Glen Gray and wife, Carol, of Bowling Green; and Karen Gray Campbell and husband, Gary, of Dewitt; half sisters, Barbara Smith, Carolyn Smith, Norma Lawson and Peggy Mills; half-brother, Clark Mills Jr.; cherished grandchildren, Jeffery Gray and wife Stephanie, Ashlee Gray and Brandon Hoskins, Joyelle Collett and husband, Chris, Josh Rodriguez, Lorenzo Smith, Brent Gray and wife, Valerie, Megan Carnes and husband, Brandon, Angie Rawlings and husband, Roy, Brett Bingham and wife, Mandy, Justin Gray, Alanna Grayce Campbell and Adam Crabbs, and Johnny Rodriguez and wife, Amanda; 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; among other relatives and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted at the Dewitt Baptist Church Wednesday, July 22 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Robert Futrell and Rev. Bobby “Bo” Henson officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Gray Cemetery at Scalf, Ky.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jeffery S. Gray, Lorenzo Smith, Brett Bingham, Jordan Rawlings, Jayden Rawlings, Brandon Carnes and Brandon Hoskins, Justin B. Gray and Adam Crabbs.
Honorary bearers are members of the Dewitt Baptist Church, Dr. Richard Carter and his staff, Brent Gray, and close friend, Mrs. Lois Townsley.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Wednesday at the church after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dewitt Baptist Church in her memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
