Mrs. Bobbie Jean Messer, 89, of Cannon, passed away Wednesday morning, April 1, 2026 at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Reid and Gladys McWilliams Disney born March 9, 1937 at Cannon.
Bobbie found joy in playing the piano and was a devoted member of Faith Tabernacle. She had a love for baking and took pride in caring for her family, always making sure their needs were met. Bobbie was known for her kind and giving heart, often helping those in need whenever she could. In quiet moments, she enjoyed reading her Bible. She dedicated many years of service as a teller at Union National Bank before retiring.
On November 4, 1954 she united in marriage with Bodie Messer Jr. in Jellico, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bodie Messer Jr.; sons, Tony and Brian Messer, grandson, Johnathan Messer, sister, Jan Sevir and brothers-in-law, Albert Mills and Doug Swafford.
Survivors include her son, Gary Messer and wife, Debby, of South Carolina; sisters, Ilena Mills and Rita Swafford, both of Cannon; grandchildren, Angela Alexander and husband, Kenny, Robert Messer and wife, Liana, Walter Messer and wife, Heather, Stephanie Grosbeck and husband, Jim, Isaac Messer and wife, Emily, Matt Messer and wife, Riyam, Rebecca Tinker and husband, Adam, Sarah Crocker and husband, Ben, Jake Messer and wife, Allie, and Gabe Messer; among other relatives and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be held at the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church on Thursday, April 9 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Samuel Lawson, Rev. Bill Engle and Rev. Fred Disney officiating. She will be laid to rest in the McWilliams Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be her family and friends.
Friends may visit at the church Thursday after 1 P.M. until the funeral hour.
Contributions may be made to the church in her memory.
