Mrs. Doreen Lee Hamilton, 74, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Calvin C. and Mary Scalf Lawson born September 6, 1952 in Detroit, MI.
Doreen was a retired manager from Kroger and a member of First Baptist Church Artemus. She found great joy in caring for her beloved cats, spending time with her family during game nights and cooking. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach. Doreen was a proud member of the Golden Girls, a group of childhood school friends that travelled together and brought her much friendship, laughter and happiness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M.D. “Kenny” Hamilton.
Survivors include her loving siblings, Peggy Messer and husband, Jay, of Artemus, Betty Davenport of Barbourville, Sonny Lawson of Artemus and Stanley Lawson and wife, Janell, of Barbourville; two special daughters she raised as her own, Heather and Holly; several nieces and nephews; among other relatives and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, October 6 at 2 P.M. with Rev. James McDonald and Paul Baker officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
