Obituary for Eva Jewell Hampton Vaughn (1940-2026)

Mrs. Eva Jewell Hampton Vaughn, 86, of Artemus, passed away Monday evening, June 22, 2026 at the home of her daughter in Lily. She was the daughter of the late Clell and Ruby Collins Hampton born February 20, 1940 in Knox County.

Eva was a business owner and a member of the Trosper Church of Christ. She found joy in playing cards with her daughter and sister, shopping and cooking for those she loved. Some of her favorite moments were spent sitting on her front porch in her rocking chair, with a cup of coffee in hand. Above all, she cherished time with her grandchildren, as well as the company of her friends and family, who brought great meaning and happiness to her life.

In June 1985, she united in marriage with Andrew Vaughn in Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, and grandson, Michael Sowders.

Survivors include her loving children, Michael Sowders and wife, Pam, of Artemus, Tammy Smith of Artemus and Angie Schwartzkopf and husband, Eddie, of Lily; sisters, Sue Hammons of Michigan and Patty Ledington of Artemus; brother, Jerry Hampton and wife, Sharon, of Dandridge, TN; cherished grandchildren, April Gibson and husband, Matt, Megan Ward and husband, Eric, and Ethan Sowders and wife, Meagan; great-grandchildren, T. J., Bradyn, Michila, McKenna, Andrew, Nathan, Auggie, Jacob, Brailon, Addie, Hunter and Michael; special cousin, Vickie Sowders; special friend, Jan Patterson; among other relatives and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, June 27 at 2 P.M. with Bro. Ethan Sowders officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Lay Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be T. J. Mills, Matt Hampton, Andrew Hampton, Nathan Hampton, Bradyn Sowders and Denny Ray Miller.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday after 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
