Mr. Larry Grant Cain fell peacefully asleep in the late hours of June 22, 2026, while surrounded by his loved ones and awoke in his eternal Heavenly home. We can only imagine what a joyous reunion he had as he was greeted at the pearly gates by his parents, Bill and Dorothy Cain to whom he was born on September 25, 1952, his sister Margaret and a host of other family members who had gone on before him.
To know Larry was to love Larry. He preached his own funeral by the life he lived and by the love he had for his Lord and Savior, his family and his friends. He was a faithful member and served as a board member at the Heidrick Holiness Church. Also, if you knew Larry you knew that he held a man’s strong work ethic next to Godliness. He began his career in the coal industry at a very young age and continued to work along with Pap and Billy in order to build a future for their family and to build a legacy to be proud of. Whether it was operating a loader on the strip job, running a tractor in the hay field or designing and drawing plans for a new construction, Larry was always working, planning and building. Perhaps the greatest trait of all that Larry had though was his thoughtfulness and his ability to make those around him feel special. He loved to do for others, loved to do for the church and loved to do for his family. Also, if you knew Larry, you knew that he loved to fish, work on his antique cars and attend car shows on the weekend with his wife. In recent years, there was nothing he enjoyed more than picking his grandchildren up, taking them to eat and spoiling them all.
Left to honor Larry and mourn his passing is his loving wife, Carolyn Mays Cain of seven years; his children, Joshua Cain and wife, Brooke, Danielle Bridgewater and husband, Barrett, and Zach Cain and wife, Brianna; his greatest treasures this side of Heaven, his grandchildren, Levi Grant Cain, Sophie Cain, Blakely Bridgewater, Griffin Bridgewater, Harlyn Cain and Anniston Cain all of whom he had nicknames for; two stepsons, John Robinson and Justin Robinson and wife, Ashley, and two grandchildren, Anna Grace and Jensen Robinson; his brother, business partner and best friend, Billy Cain and wife, Donna; a special aunt, Vennia Warren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, June 26 at 4 P.M. with Rev. Duke Hammons officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Levi Cain, Billy Cain, Larry Hinkle, Art Hinkle, John Hinkle, Ryan Carlson, Barrett Bridgewater, Justin Robinson, Brandon Evans and Mike Corey. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Morris, Phillip Smith, Sam Roach and the ICU staff at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday after 2 P.M. until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Hope Lodge of Lexington in Larry’s memory at https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/pages/1233.
