Barbourville, Ky. – Frank Chris Cox, 90, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away at home, peacefully, Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Frank was born in Skelton, West Virginia, on November 21, 1935, to the late Charles Andrew Cox and Leola Blanche Calfee Cox. Frank was united in marriage to Wanda Lois Bain on September 6, 1975 and to this union two sons were born: Michael Paul Cox and Marshall Dwayne Cox.
Frank had a strong work ethic. He started working at age 12 setting pins for a local bowling alley. At 18, Frank enlisted in the United States Navy, where he became a Navy Diver and did underwater welding. When Frank returned home from the service, he became employed at Michigan Production Machining, where he was a screw-machine operator. Frank would always work days at the factory and would work nights at local restaurants. He had a passion for cooking and wanted to attend culinary school when he was younger, but never had the opportunity. He worked up until he was 89 years old at the Cracker Barrel, Mr. Gatti’s and Sonny’s Barbeque in the Corbin area.
Frank was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved riding his Harley Sportster – in his younger years. He enjoyed being outdoors and he loved playing the lottery. Pick 3 was his “go to” game. Frank enjoyed a good cigar and an ice-cold bottled Coke. Frank was a private man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He will be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Charles Andrew Cox and Leola Blanche Cox, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lois Bain Cox; sister Shirley Louise Lett; brother-in-law John Lett; nephews: John Lett and Chucky Lett, and niece, Peggy Lett.
Left behind to mourn his passing, are his sons Michael Paul Cox (Jennifer) and Marshall Dwayne Cox; sisters Carolyn Sue Carver (Gerald) and Patricia Ann Cansler (James); nieces Diana Carver and Michelle Lett; nephew, Jason Canster; and many beloved great nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
The Cox family will receive friends for a visitation at Hopper Funeral Home, Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
