Obituary for Doris Angeline Hensley (1948-2026)

Mrs. Doris Angeline Hensley, 78, of Gray, the widow of Larry D. Hensley, passed away Monday evening, September 14, 2026 in Corbin.  She was born May 23, 1948 at Gray, the daughter of the late Sam and Kitty Merida Owens.

Doris was a former bus driver with the Laurel County Public Schools and a member of the Hill Top House of Prayer.  She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, tending flowers, raising goats and attending yard sales and flea markets.  She also loved singing and sang with the Gloryland Travelers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Luther Owens and a daughter-in-law, Rosa Marler.

Survivors include her loving children, Lisa Gray and fiancé, Brian Burton, of Artemus, Delton Dewayne Marler of Gray and Amber Clark and Gabby Bargo of Barbourville, two bonus children she had the privilege of helping to raise, Ca’Leah Senters of Artemus and Kalayshia Senters of West Virginia; brothers, Lonnie Owens and wife, Jenny, of Bailey Switch and Paul Owens and wife, Vivian, of Flint, MI; cherished grandchildren, Colby Felts and wife, Karen, Karley Gambrel and husband, Cody, and Ray’lee Clark; great grandchildren, Tori, Dani, Elli, Maci, Cali, Jaxon, Miley and Praylee; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, September 19 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Don Farmer officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Owens Family Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Colby Felts, Brian Burton, Cody Gambrel, Henry Owens, Lonnie Owens II and Luther Owens II.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing staff of Baptist Health Corbin and Bluegrass Hospice Care.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
