Obituary for George Robert “Bert” McDade (1951-2026)

Mr. George Robert “Bert” McDade, 74, of Dayton Ohio, passed away March 16, 2026.  He was born July 31, 1951 in Barbourville, the son of the late George Richard “Dick” and Mary Sue McDade.

Bert played football and golf in high school. He graduated from Union College where he was sports editor for the paper, President of College Republicans and a fraternity member.

Bert started his long teaching career in Texas and retired from teaching in Ohio. During his career, he coached football, basketball and track.

In 1995, he married Molly Flynn in a beautiful ceremony that none of us will forget.

Bert loved sports, especially horse racing and golf.  He was the first family member to hit a hole in one. He also loved his family and friends. He was the absolute best at calling everyone and keeping up with all of his friends, from childhood to current. He was a great big brother.

Bert is survived by his wife of 30 years, Molly Flynn McDade; his brothers, Dann McDade and wife, Jeanne, of Calhoun, Georgia and Chris McDade of Watertown, Tennessee; his sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Gays and husband, Mark, of Sparta, Tennessee; cousins, Dr. Robert McDade and wife, Sarah, Drue Rolfes and husband, Richard, Bailey McDade and wife, Tammy, Eddie Bob Dannel and wife, Lori, and Ted Dannel and wife, Teresa; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
