Obituary for Kenneth C. “Chuck” Johnson (1957-2025)

Mr. Kenneth C. “Chuck” Johnson, 68, of Woollum, passed away Wednesday morning, January 14, 2026 at his home.  He was born December 14, 1957 in Pineville, the son of the late Claude and Maudie Miller Johnson.

Chuck, also known as “Buckshot”, was a farmer and a member of the Old Flat Lick Baptist Church.  An avid motorcyclist, Chuck was a proud member of the Southern Brothers Motorcycle Club and cherished the camaraderie of the open road.  He also enjoyed four-wheeling and horseback riding, always embracing opportunities to explore nature.

When not riding, Chuck enjoyed gardening or searching for Indian artifacts, hobbies that reflected his appreciation for history and the land.  He was a sports fan, an enthusiastic UK fan and rarely missed a chance to support his team.  He faithfully served in the United States Navy.

On May 12, 1986, he united in marriage with Letha Parker Cox.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeremiah Meyers; a brother, Jimmy Johnson; a nephew, Mike Mills and brothers-in-law, Arthur Mills, Freddie Cole and G. L. Dean.

Survivors include his loving wife, Letha Johnson of Woollum; children, Paul Cox of Lexington and Kyle Meyers of Traverse City, MI; sisters, Adean Cole of Dewitt, Arthena Mills and Claudetta Dean Warnock both of Flat Lick; brothers, Leon Johnson and wife, Tammy, of Cannon, Randy Smith and Stanley “Sambo” Smith and wife, Loretta, all of Flat Lick; treasured grandchildren, Slade Cox, Devin Tye and Jayden Meyers; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, January 21 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Paul Frost officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Johnson Cemetery at Spruce Pine.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.  Honorary bearers will be the members of the Southern Brothers Motorcycle Club.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
