Mrs. Wanda Lee Smith, 65, of Barbourville, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 28, 2023 at the St. Joseph London Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Lester and Cleda Helton born on June 24, 1958 in Knox County.
Wanda was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church. In earlier years, she was an employee of the Herndon Drug Store. She enjoyed tending flowers, baking delicious pies and cakes and loved her pet cats. Wanda also treasured spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
On January 3, 1981, she united in marriage with Kenneth Smith and to this union two children born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Hammons, Evelyn Helton, Georgia Broughton, Betty Brock, Shirley Truesdell and Carol Allen and brothers, Willie Joe, Lester Jr., Bev, Walter and Charles Helton.
Survivors include her loving husband, Ken Smith of Barbourville; her children, Kendra Doolin and husband, Michael, of Heidrick and Adam Smith and wife, April, of Barbourville; a sister, Pat Pike of Louisville; a brother, Carl Helton of Killeen, TX; cherished grandchildren, Samuel, Shepherd and Silas Doolin and Ronan, Elaina and Daemon Smith; a brother-in-law, Virgil Allen; several nieces and nephews including two who were very special to her, Karyn Merida and Jamie Hembree; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, November 4 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Sylvester Dunn and Rev. Duke Hammons officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Jamie Hembree, Jakob Hembree, Chris Helton, Chris Jackson, Adam Woolum and Michael Doolin. Honorary bearers will be Virgil Allen, Dr. West and staff of the Barbourville ARH Hospital.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
