Obituary for Billy Joe Dunn (1971-2026)

Mr. Billy Joe Dunn, 54, of Barbourville, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2026 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital.  He was born October 4, 1971 in Knox County, the son of Bonnie Root Dunn and the late Rev. Alvin Dunn.

Bill was a carpenter and a believer in the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking.  He was also an avid UK Wildcats and Dallas Cowboys fan.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Fount and Marie Root and Commie and Mattie Dunn; a niece, Ambria Dunn and a nephew, Duce Dunn.

Survivors include his loving mother, Bonnie Dunn and Uless Mills of Cannon; siblings, Jeffrey Allen Dunn and wife, Sara, of Clarksville, TN, James David Dunn and Jodi of Woollum, David Dunn of Cannon, James Edward Dunn and Kelly of Cannon, Bobby Dunn and wife, Brenda, of Woollum, Kathy Stroop and husband, Nasby, of Frankfort, Stacie Marie Hammond and husband, James, of Knoxville, TN, Billie Joyce Bright and husband, Michael, of Woollum, Tina Kay Mills and husband, Billy, of Barbourville, Rebecca Carol Dunn of Barbourville and Donna Elliott and husband, Doyle, of Corbin; special friend, Jason Smith of Barbourville; among other loved ones and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, May 7 at 1 P.M. with Rev. David Barnard and Rev. Mike Helton officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Patterson Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be his nephews.  Honorary bearers will be the staff of Baptist Health Corbin Infusion Clinic and his friends and neighbors at College Heights.

Friends may visit the funeral home Wednesday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Thursday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
