Obituary for James Raymond Fuson (1942-2026)

Mr. James Raymond Fuson, 84, of Corbin, passed away Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026 at Baptist Health Corbin.  He was born June 3, 1942 in Barbourville, the son of the late Raymond “Preach” and Oma Partin Fuson.

Jim was a retired railroad engineer, of the Baptist faith and faithfully served his country in the United States Army.  He found great enjoyment in playing golf and was a devoted fan of high school athletics, proudly holding a lifetime gate pass to Knox County athletic events.  Jim cherished his rural heritage, especially the places closest to his heart, Little Poplar Creek and Eastridge Branch Farm.  He enjoyed taking leisurely drives through the countryside, welcoming neighbors and neighborhood children to fish from the dock and spending time visiting with his many treasured friends and neighbors.  Above all, one of Jim’s greatest joys was the time he shared with his beloved grandsons, Tucker and John, who held a very special place in his heart.

On June 16, 1965, he united in marriage with Patsy Warren and to this union two children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Beatrice Mayne and J. D. “Bird” Fuson.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 61 years, Patsy Fuson of Corbin; daughters, Jennifer Fuson and husband, Mostafa Sader, of Lexington and Becky Fuson Holland and husband, Gilbert, of Barbourville; sisters, Flora Matlock, Ruby Pope and husband, Edward B., Cuba Hattaway and husband, Ralph, and Edna Sue Slusher and husband, David; treasured grandsons, Tucker Holland and John Sader; among other loved ones and dear friends.
