Rev. James Larry “Tiny” Isom, 56, of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday morning, August 4, 2026 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was the son of the late Arnold and Bonnie Garrison Isom born July 18, 1970 in Knox County.
James was a former evaluator for KCEOC and a self-employed carpenter. He faithfully served the Lord as a minister and was the former pastor of Pleasant View Baptist Church and Beech Springs Baptist Church. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church.
James was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ginseng hunting. He took pride in growing a large garden and reading his Bible daily. He most cherished spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
On June 4, 1989 he united in marriage with Beverly Hale.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife, Beverly Isom of Barbourville; children, James Isom and wife, Holly, Austin Isom and Autumn Mills and husband, Zackery, all of Barbourville; sisters, Lisa Isom of Manchester, Michelle Partin, Sheila Shaffer and Marsha Williams and husband, Allen, all of Barbourville; brothers, Gary Isom of Barbourville and Adam Isom of Manchester; cherished grandchildren, Allissa, Layla and Makenna Isom and Felix Mills; among other relatives and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, August 7 at 2 P.M. with Rev. David Lawson officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Taylor Cemetery at Blackwater.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Serving as casket bearers will be Gary Isom, Derek Isom, Austin Isom, Devin Smith, Damien Williams and Tim Garrison. Serving as an honorary bearer is Adam Isom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in his memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
