Mrs. Wanda F. Hammons, 91, of Bailey Switch, passed away Wednesday evening, August 19, 2026 at Baptist Health Corbin. She was born November 11, 1934 in Knox County, the daughter of the late Willie Sam and Mary Carroll Jackson.
Wanda was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Roadside Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time visiting with her siblings and other family members and was known for being a wonderful cook. In earlier years, Wanda found joy in quilting. She especially cherished the time she shared with her husband and lovingly cared for him until his passing. Her warmth, devotion, and love for her family will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
On November 27, 1953, she united in marriage with Herbert Hammons and to this union three children were born.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Russell, Denver and Bob Jackson; sister-in-law, Pat Jackson and brothers-in-law, Ray Robinson and Ed Hunt.
Survivors include her loving children, Herbert Hammons II and wife, Donna, of
La Salle, MI, Dennis Hammons and wife, Donna, of London and Angela Smith and husband, Derek, of Bailey Switch; sisters, Frances Hunt of Girdler and JoAnn Robinson of Knoxville, TN; brothers, James Jackson of Westland, MI and Jess Jackson of Union; cherished grandchildren, Dhartie Hammons-Dingess and husband, Adam, Christin Mofield and husband, Chris, Joshua Hammons and wife, Emily, Gavin Smith and Meghann Smith; a great grandson, Caleb Christopher Mofield; dear friends, Don and Irene Cheek, Diane Jones and Eddie North; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, August 24 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Rick Partin officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Baptist Health Corbin for the excellent care, compassion and kindness shown to their family.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday after 2 P.M. until the funeral hour.
