Union’s Blakely Named AAC Player of the Week

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union College junior Lance Blakely is the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This is the first time this season Blakely has received the honor.

Blakely led the Bulldogs in scoring last week, averaging 19.0 points per game. He also posted 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game and shot 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from 3-point range.

Union went 2-0 last week and is 15-7 overall and 12-3 in the AAC.

The Lexington, Ky., native scored a team-high 21 points in an 87-85 conference win over host and No. 25 Montreat (N.C.). In addition, he hit a pair of free throws six seconds remaining to secure the victory.

In the 76-73 win over visiting Truett McConnell (Ga.), Blakely notched his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He also dished out five assists and recorded a career-high four steals.

On the season, Blakely is averaging 13.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in blocks with 14. The Bulldog forward owns 54 assists and 20 steals.
